In the Prefecture life as it had developed during the Late Copper Age continued at existing settlements during the Iron Age (1050 BC - 700 BC).
New settlements appeared both on the plains and in the mountains in fortified locations or acropolises such as at the fortified hill of Platania.
Excavations conducted in the Industrial Area of Drama have revealed three tumuli with creation burials and internment burials in large earthenware jars with rich findings such as weapons, jewellery and tools.

Rectangular buildings were found during the excavations at the acropolis of Platania.
